What to expect on your surf lesson

Learn the basics of surfing in a safe and beginner friendly environment.

The lessons are conducted in the shallow waters of Morjim Beach, making it easier for beginners and non-swimmers to experience the thrill of surfing.

It's also a perfect refresh course for you who have surfed before and want to get back on the board.

Our lessons are aimed at calming those nerves, helping you get comfortable with the surfboard, the rhythm of the ocean, and even the surfer lingo!

Breaking down the lesson

Step 1 : Meet your instructor : Your journey begins with meeting your surf instructor, they'll introduce you to the fundamentals of surfing, and guide you through your surf journey.

Step 2 : About the surfboards : With guidance from your instructor, you'll learn the ins and outs of your surf board and its handling techniques.

Step 3 : The popup : This is where you go from lying down on a board to standing on it, kinda more like an awkward frog jump, but critical to standing and riding your wave. It also doubles as very good warmup.

Step 4 : Get comfortable : Once you enter the water, your instructor will help you get comfortable with the flow of the ocean and the surfboard.

Step 6 : Popup and catch your wave : After you get comfortable, its time to standup on your board. Your instructor spots the best waves for you, helping you to find your rhythm and popup on time.

Step 7 : Repeat step 6

Safety is important at Octopus Surf. 15 to 20mins of your first lesson is spent on land with your instructor helping you understand theory, beach dynamics, board handling, & riding waves safely
