Lesson related

  • The minimum age to learn to surf can vary based on the individual's comfort in the water and physical ability to handle the surfboard. From our experience, children around 6 or 7years old can start with proper supervision and appropriate-sized equipment.

    As for the maximum age, there isn't a strict limit. Anyone with good health, mobility, and a willingness to learn can try surfing.

  • For your first surf lesson, opt for comfortable swimwear or board shorts and a rash guard or a t-shirt.

    Avoid loose clothing that might hinder movement in the water.

  • It's advisable to have a light meal before your surf lesson to maintain energy levels. Opt for something easily digestible, like a banana, yogurt, or a granola bar, to keep you fueled without feeling too heavy in the water.

    It's best to ensure you're well-rested and hydrated before hitting the waves for a safe and enjoyable experience.

  • In our surf lessons, we provide the necessary gear: the board, leash, and wax. Just bring along a towel and wear appropriate surf attire for the lesson.

    We have rash-guards available at the school, we do not provide wetsuits.

  • Prior to each lesson, we assess the water for potential risks like rips and currents, ensuring a safe learning environment. Our highly trained instructors prioritize safety, adeptly managing boards and ensuring student well-being in the water.

    Safety remains paramount for us. If conditions aren't good enough for guaranteed safety, we'll pause the session.

  • In our non-private lessons, groups of 5 to 8 (based on conditions) surfers are guided by either one senior instructor or two junior instructors per group. This ensures personalised attention and a safe, enjoyable learning experience tailored to each participant's skill level.

  • Our head and senior surf instructors boast extensive experience and expertise in the sport, having spent years mastering the waves themselves.

    They're well-versed in teaching beginners surfers, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience for all age and skill levels.

  • Octopus surf school prioritises your safety and surf experience. If conditions aren't ideal, we'll swiftly reschedule your lesson to ensure you catch the perfect wave safely and confidently.

    However during Goa’s main season (October to April) the conditions are perfect for beginners.

  • Octopus Surf School operates from the vibrant S2 Beach Shack in Morjim, Goa. S2 offers clean and functional facilities, including a fully equipped bar and kitchen.

    Towels are available from S2 for a small fee.

Kids related

    In our experience, their readiness and confidence in the water play a significant role in making the surfing experience enjoyable and safe for them.

  • At Octopus, we take special care to ensure that our surfboards and equipment are perfectly suited for children.Our surfboards are lightweight, easy to handle, and sized just right for younger surfers.

    Additionally, our instructors are adept at choosing the appropriate gear and ensuring that each child is equipped with the right equipment to make their surfing experience safe, enjoyable, and tailored to their size and skill level.

  • For a surf lesson, your child can wear comfortable swimwear or board shorts.

    Additionally, a rash guard or a t-shirt for sun protection is recommended. It's essential to avoid loose-fitting clothing that might hinder movement in the water. Don't forget sunscreen for added sun protection!

  • If your child feels uncomfortable or scared during their surf lesson, our instructors prioritize their safety and comfort above all else. They'll immediately provide reassurance and guidance, encouraging your child to take things at their own pace.

    Our instructors are trained to handle such situations with care and patience, ensuring that your child feels supported and secure throughout the lesson. If needed, they can offer alternatives or take breaks to help your child regain confidence before continuing with the lesson. Your child's well-being is our top priority!

  • Parents can comfortably observe their kids from a safe distance along the shore, ensuring an unobstructed view of the lesson without interfering with the surfing experience.

Booking related

  • We encourage scheduling your class through our booking portal to secure a confirmed slot. While walk-ins are welcome, availability depends on open slots at the school during that time.

    Scheduling is open between 8am to 8pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

  • In our surf lessons, we provide the necessary gear: the board, leash, and wax. Just bring along a towel and wear appropriate surf attire for the lesson.

  • If booked as a group of 5 or more you get a 10% discount.

  • At our surf school, our batches start promptly to allow our instructors ample time with each group in the water and sufficient breaks between sessions.

    If you're late for your lesson, we'll do our best to accommodate you in the next available batch. Our batches kick off at 8 am, 10 am, and 12 pm

Conditions / Ocean related

  • The school operates during Goa's primary season, running from mid-September through May, during this time waves are often mellow and small, providing a safe and conducive environment for beginners to learn and practice their skills.

    But please note that this may vary based on prevailing weather conditions.

  • Morjim beach in Goa generally offers a relatively hazard-free environment for surfers.

    Our surf lessons are conducted in a safe zone, positioned far away from any rocks or potential hazards. Your safety is our priority, ensuring an enjoyable and risk-free experience in the waves!

  • During the main surfing season in Goa, which typically spans from October to May, the water temperature ranges from approximately 27°C to 30°C (80°F to 86°F).

    It provides comfortably warm waters for surfers, making the experience enjoyable without the need for heavy wetsuits.

  • In Goa's main surfing season, waves for beginners typically range from 1 to 3 feet in height. These waves offer a manageable and beginner-friendly size, ideal for learners to practice and develop their surfing skills comfortably.

    However all surf lessons will be taken in waist-deep water.

  • At our surf school, your safety and experience matter most. If the conditions aren't favorable, we prioritize safety and might need to cancel lessons. Don't worry! We swiftly reschedule to ensure you have the best possible surfing experience when conditions are ideal.
